Underwater Love

Underwater Love

I finally took my chance with animation this week. It was definitely a challenge, if not only because I am very new (as in first time) to Adobe After Effects, which I used to create the animation below. Asides the challenge of learning a new programme, settings kept changing behind the scenes without me doing anything and it made for a rather frustrating afternoon. Thanks to google, I overcame these challenges and it seems AE just “does that”, so it’ll be something that takes getting used to if I’m to use it again in the future.

The animation itself is based loosely on a illustration of a girl applying lipstick that happens to literally be made of whale (which I just realised I’ve never shared on here) and regards the whale leaping to freedom. Though it could use a lot of tweaking and adjustments, I’m quite pleased with the outcome. I think after deadline, I’ll go back and fix it up a bit, add some more details and what not that I just haven’t had time to do this time round.

Unfortunately, some of the nuances in the video are lost in the size of the video, removing the (very) little bit of the humour I injected.

Also, looking back, I realised I took a lot more effort than was needed on a couple of the shots, only having learned in hindsight alternative and simpler ways to achieve what I did. If I had known this at the time, the animation itself would likely be slightly more advanced story-wise than it is now, however the ways of working bit rather deeply into my self-allotted time.
