Things that I have learned II

Thinking back on The Chase visit we had at uni in February, I’ve decided to take a look at what I learned from my experience taking to an agent after I’ve had a bit of time to cool down from the flushes of their praises. I’m quite hard on myself and am rarely happy with my own work (or anything I do), so to receive praise from such an experienced design agency was quite amazing and a much needed personal boost.

So, on with the things I have learned…

1. I do need reassurance from other people and it’s okay to admit that. I know my own self-validation is not found in the praise of others, but sometimes it’s nice to made to feel like what I’m doing is pleasing others as well as myself.

2. Carry on working in the ways I love because they work for me. I love colour and pattern and they lead me to (generally) successful work. I know I won’t be able to incorporate things such as colour into every brief I receive, but when I can, I shouldn’t shy away from it because “it’s too easy”. This carries over to content as well. I aim to challenge myself when I can and often find myself pushing myself beyond my comfort zone. I know it’s a not a bad thing to try new things and push it, but it’s also okay to ocassionally stick to what comes naturally and perhaps too easily.
