The Secret Vintage Tea Party

The Secret Vintage Tea Party

A while back I was asked by the lovely Rebecca of Pretty Little Trio’s China Hire to create a series of promotional images for her upcoming secret project. Well, the project is out of the bag and I can share some of the work I did for her.

We started out creating an image based around the actual subject of her project, Secret Vintage Tea Parties and went with tea pots, petit fours and “twee”.

It turns out, one can go too twee and Rebecca realised her initial vision was not the correct one for her parties and wanted to go with a more sophisticated, more simple hand lettered image. Luckily she’d actually liked the initial image so decided to bring me back for the next incarnation of the header.

Now, I’ll admit hand lettering is not one of my practised strengths. I’ve included hand lettering in work before, but never had a piece centre entirely around my lettering and I’m not that confident with it, so I worried and fretted, hoping Rebecca would like it. Luckily, she loved it and I can add a new skill to my repertoire. Well, maybe not yet, but it’s given me a chance to explore an area out of my comfort zone and I look forward to experimenting with hand lettering more in the future and building it up for my portfolio. Fear conquered.
