Sketchbook Magazine

I thought I’d share slightly higher resolution jpegs of my Sketchbook Magazine submissions. I can’t wait until I get my hands on a copy so I can share scans of them as well.

The brief for these images definitely took me back to the basics as it required black and white work, something that doesn’t come all that easily to me as a lover of colour. It forced me to work in a way I haven’t worked for a while; with a good old pencil and pen. I forgot how much I loved to draw as I’ve gotten into the routine of working digitally as of late. This just reinforces the notion that I am indeed capable of working in an analogue format and that I should continue to mix my methods of practice.

Working on this also forced me to look at typography, as I was only allowed to use hand-drawn type on my images. Though the “fonts” I created are far, far, far from perfect, it was a starting point and I quite like how hodge-podge the ones used here look. I shall continue my research into this area of practice as well.
