Frankly my Deer, I don’t give a damn.

A while back (a few months ago), I bought myself an A3 Screen Printing set for use at home, but due to various reasons (space & time mainly) I’d never used it, until now. I needed to make a bit of space in my head and take a break from university work, which is at the moment overwhelming my poor brain. I’ve been in a rut where university work is concerned and feeling a bit depressed elsewhere in my life, to say the least. So I decided to try a bit of screen printing, just to be able to focus on something that doesn’t matter for a while. Rather than creating a screen, I used card to create a mask for my printing and I decided to keep it simple to see how it would go, printing in my limited space. I drew the deer in Adobe Illustrator, printed it on card, used my scalpel to cut out. I originally printed onto paper and may use the results another time, but the second time I decided to print onto a canvas shopping bag I had. As basic and simple as the design is, I’m quite pleased with the result considering it’s my first time messing about at home. I’ve kept the inner part of the deer’s head as well, so may use it to mask off the deer if I decide to add more flourishes and detail onto the bag. I wouldn’t mind trying fabric pens if I don’t silk screen these, but I don’t know successful they are; Does anyone have any experience them and are they worth the investment?
