Craig Oldham of Music

Craig Oldham of Music

Last thursday we had a visiting lecturer, the one and only Craig Oldham of Music, a Manchester-based Graphics Agency. He came in to discuss with us what it’s like working with illustrators as an art director. It was an interesting talk and he was so pro-illustrator. He brought in examples they had brough illustrators in for, including working with Manchester City, Chester Zoo and the Hull School District. It was interesting to hear what working with some big names in illustration was like, and the varying attitudes they had. I also picked up on some advice on negotiating fees, which at this point, is helpful, as I always undercharge.

Before the lecture itself, we were given a brief to design a poster for the event to draw in an audience (from other pathways). Somehow, I found mine was the chosen by Craig from twenty-one posters, so I was quite pleased to say the least. There was even a prize, which included a few things including four A1 posters of the designs they had done for Manchester City (just shame I’m not a City fan).
