Big Cats in acrylic

Big Cats in acrylic

With children’s books in mind, this afternoon I decided to break out the acrylic paints (which have never seen the light of day, I shall have you know) and try a bit of free-hand painting for a few minutes. I didn’t use any pencil lines, just went at the paper with layers of colour and I’m not sure how I feel about the results. I did, however, learn, I need to use source images in the future so I don’t end up with demonic/vampiric tigers.

I think they definitely improved as I did each cat, starting with the tiger and finishing with the leopard (who’s my favourite!). I tried to keep it natural, messy, naive, all those things kids seem to like. Not sure about acrylics still, but I think I’ll continue to mess about and see what else I can come up with. Afterall, practice makes perfect, or atleast something better.

PS. This is not for my Macmillan story… that would require a decision of what story I’m going to do to be made.
